Jordan Burgason and I have spent many hours in the gym working to improve his game. As one of college basketball's most dangerous 3 point threats, even Jordan is susceptible to shooting droughts.

After watching an hour of video of his made and missed shots over the past month I picked up some nuggets that will help you become a consistent shooter and pull out of any slump!

Here are 10 changes I noticed in his three point shooting:

1. Eyes on the rim--each time he caught the ball his eyes immediately targeted on the rim.

2. Eyes stayed on the rim during the entire shooting process, even after the ball went in the basket.

3. Pre-shot cutting and getting open--The better Jordan played away from the ball, the better shots he got. As his shot selection got better, his percentage went up considerably.

4. Shot Selection--Good shots result in a higher percentage of makes than poor shots. What is a good shot for you? Do you know?

5. 10 Toes to the Rim--I noticed that in his slump, his feet were not totally squared to the rim as we call it "10 Toes." When his entire body & feet got squared to the rim, he was deadly.

6. Help others get open--The more he helped others get open, the more he got open and created great shots for himself.

7. Using misdirection--The game is played most efficiently with constant changes of speed and direction. When Jordan did this, the results were great, but when he was cutting in a straight line (a common fault of players) he had trouble getting open and getting good looks at the basket.

8. Follow through--During the slump his follow through was lazy. But when he started making his shots, he was "snapping" his follow through and holding it until the ball went in the basket.

9. Good defense leads to good shooting--An aggressive approach to the defensive end always results in better shooting on the offensive end. A player that "takes plays off" on defense can become very average and inconsistent shooters. As Jordan locked in defensively, especially as a help defender, his percentage increased drastically.

10. Don't find the ball---Let the ball find you!

The biggest adjustment he made was using this key strategy. Are you hunting the ball on offense or working hard away from the ball?

"Hunters" may get open but rarely get good open shots. Players who "let the ball find them" produce more good and open shots. Therefore their percentage increases drastically.
